Minneriya is home to one of nature’s most extraordinary spectacles-The Gathering, an annual congregation of up to 300 wild Asian elephants assembling around the ancient Minneriya Tank as the dry season reduces surrounding water sources. Between July and October, this creates one of Asia’s most humbling and unforgettable wildlife experiences. Open grassy plains also support spotted deer, purple-faced langur monkeys and exceptional water birdlife.
