Yala holds the world’s highest density of wild leopards, offering some of Asia’s most reliable big-cat sightings with expert trackers. Beyond leopards, herds of elephants, sloth bears, crocodiles, water buffaloes and over 200 bird species inhabit a landscape of scrub jungle, ancient rock outcrops, lagoons and sandy coastline. A Yala sunrise over the open plains remains one of Sri Lanka’s most memorable experiences.
